A workshop on immunization against measles is being held in the walls of JSC "SKMA"
The Academy is hosting a workshop entitled " Improving immunization data and piloting a measles programmatic risk assessment tool (MRAT) in selected oblasts" from 28 to 30 August. The workshop aims to improve and use of data for action by strengthening the capacity of national and subnational immunization managers. The workshop is attended by 18 participants from the Republic of Kazakhstan (Subnational staff from 7 priority Oblasts, National Immunization Programme manager, VPD unit head of Ministry of Health, staff from National Public Health Centre, Astana University and South Kazakhstan Medical School); 4 participants from Uzbekistan (Subnational staff from Oblasts sharing borders with Kazakhstan); 3 participants from Kyrgyzstan (Subnational staff from Oblasts sharing borders with Kazakhstan). During the event, such issues as "Measles and rubella elimination - global and regional perspectives", "Measles and rubella surveillance and vaccination status in Kazakhstan", "WHO surveillance standards", "Standard approach to data management - WHO measles and rubella list template" were discussed. The expected outcome of the event: Immunization managers will use the MRAT annually to monitor the risk for measles outbreaks based on the performance of the vaccination programme, measles surveillance and threats due to migration and other factors and identify corrective actions.
During the first day of the workshop, the official meeting of the Academy management with the WHO Representative, Head of the WHO Country Office in Kazakhstan, Skender Syla, also took place. During the meeting, Skender Syla thanked the Academy management for assistance in organizing the workshop and also offered an opportunity to conduct training courses for staff and students of the Academy.
